External Combustion

About the Company – History

External Combustion was set up in the late 1980’s by artists and performers with an irresistible passion for spectacle. The company set out to establish fresh and imaginative ways of creating grand fireworks displays, outdoor theatrical spectacle, machine performance and collaborative performance pieces. Now with more than twenty five years experience producing original and bold projects the company has refined a style of work that, we think, maintains our creative aims and has established us as true pioneers of ideas and experts in the production of our work.

The company provides expertise in the development and realisation of firework displays for public and private celebrations, mechanised fire, light and pyrotechnic structures. We are also asked by organisations to supply and implement ideas for one off special effects for large Son-et-Lumiere extravaganzas, parades, celebratory theatre projects, street performances and product launches.

As well as expert pyrotechnists, the company members have backgrounds in fine art, engineering and performance, providing a rich source of creative ideas for the projects we undertake. With the facility of an extensive workshop, digital recording studio and computer controlled firing systems we are able to create shows with a unique flavour and complexity.

The company operates with a core team of experienced technicians, designers, and riggers who comply with all the latest training regulations in multiple fields. These include:

External Combustion is a CHAS accredited company and CBI Explosives Industry Group member with an unblemished history for safe and reliable projects.
